Before Other Mommy even began, River had already put us on edge. We first caught its trailer in theaters, and now that it’s online, we can share the reason.

The setup sounds like a difficult but meaningful family trip: three estranged siblings reunite after their father’s death to scatter his ashes at his favorite spot along a remote river. Then their boat breaks down. There’s no cell service, help is miles away, and a faceless killer emerges from the woods.

Suddenly, getting along becomes a matter of staying alive.

Jane Levy (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe), Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day), and Max Mattern play the siblings, with Dane DiLiegro (Prey) as the figure hunting them. Written and directed by Joshua Giuliano, River marks his feature filmmaking debut.

Jane Levy is getting bloody again after Evil Dead, while Jessica Rothe barely left the Amazon in Beware Boiúna before finding trouble on another river. Someone get these women a vacation on dry land. Together, they give River two familiar horror faces—and us another reason to pay attention.

We haven’t seen the film yet. The trailer, however, has earned it a place on our horror watchlist.

River opens in U.S. theaters January 15, 2027.
